Yard Goat Operator in Sarnia

Our client company - chassis assembly/components in North America manufactory is currently seeking motivated Yard Goat operator to join their growing team in a fast-paced manufacturing Plant in Sarnia!

Shift: Monday through Thursday 7:30 am to 6 pm with overtime availability on Fridays.

Location: Blackwell Side Rd & Hwy 402, Sarnia

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

SUMMARY: The Yard Goat Operator will be responsible for the efficient and safe movement of
intermodal chassis, trailers/containers within the plant and freight yard. This role requires
strong attention to detail, excellent driving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and
dynamic environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate and maneuver yard goat (terminal tractor) to transport intermodal chassis and
containers/trailers within the facility perimeter in a busy industrial environment.
• Connect and disconnect transportation equipment from the yard goat using proper
safety procedures.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

• Coordinate with the production department and Yard Supervisor to ensure timely and
accurate movement of freight.
• Efficiently organize and prioritize equipment movements to optimize yard space and
facilitate loading and unloading processes.
• Communicate effectively with other drivers, Production Supervisor, and management to
coordinate activities and resolve any issues that may arise.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the yard goat to ensure the
equipment is compliant with all safety guidelines.
• Responsible for reporting any safety/maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel
as needed.
• Assist in the loading and unloading of transportation equipment when required.
• Identify workplace safety hazards.
• Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations and company policies while operating the yard
goat.
• Report any delays, accidents, or incidents to the supervisor promptly.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven experience and knowledge as a yard goat driver or in a similar role within the
transportation and logistics industry.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to yard operations.
• Ability to operate a yard goat efficiently and safely in a confined space.

Ability to operate a two-way radio.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination.
• Spatial awareness.
• Good time-management skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Physical ability to perform the required tasks, including connecting and disconnecting
intermodal chassis/containers and trailers.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining a high level of
professionalism.

yard goat and yard spatial awareness for yard moves.
• Safety Procedures: Strict adherence to safety protocols, including wearing personal
protective equipment (PPE) and following established safety guidelines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment has the typical industrial manufacturing characteristics include but are not limited to the following:

• Working in Confined Spaces: Depending on the manufacturing environment, the need to
work in tight or confined spaces may arise.
• Noise Exposure: Exposure to loud machinery and equipment noise, requiring the use of
hearing protection.
